Published by Lake Union Publishing, All They Ask Is Everything is out TODAY!
Hello (Writing) Group Chat, Erin here!
I am beyond thrilled to shout from the rooftops that today is the publication day for All They Ask Is Everything, Hadley’s engrossing, empathetic debut novel. When we first met Hadley three years ago, she’d been in the querying trenches for months and was frankly over it. But everyone who knows Hadley—a mom of three who has degrees in medicine, biochemistry, Spanish, and science journalism—knows that she never gives up. In true Hadley fashion, she turned querying on its head by winning the 2021 Women’s Fiction Writers Association Rising Star Award. After that, five agents offered her representation, and she went on to sell her debut novel to Lake Union.
And what a novel it is. Tara Conklin, the New York Times best-selling author of The Last Romantics, calls All They Ask Is Everything “a riveting, heartbreaking debut that examines all the nuances of motherhood.” Indeed.
All They Ask is Everything is the story of Hannah, an overwhelmed, grieving mother whose lapse in judgment results in her two young daughters getting taken away from her. As she fights to get them back, she has to go up against the girls' foster mom, Julie, who desperately wants to be a mother herself, and their grandma, Elaine, a high-powered attorney who is better at her job than being maternal.
The brilliance of this novel lies in its ability to make you see all three points of view and understand why each of these women truly believe they are who the little girls need. It's a deep exploration of motherhood, love, grief, family—and asking for help when life overwhelms you completely.

Hadley’s Memorable Moments on the Way to Publication
Funny Moment:
I was so excited and nervous to sign preorders at my local indie bookstore, that the very first book I pulled off the stack to sign, I completely messed up the reader’s name. I’d written in Sharpie and couldn’t very well ask for a new copy, so I turned the mistake into an elaborate heart. A one-of-a-kind signed edition, lol!
Favorite Moment(s):
It’s hard to pick a favorite, but unboxing is definitely at the top of the list. For whatever reason, I was super anxious to open my ARCs—maybe a bit like an expectant mother, worried I wouldn’t find my baby cute—but then it was a huge relief to open the box and feel a flood of positive emotions. My final copies arrived in three separate boxes, so I let each of my kids open one. The packages turned out to be boxes inside of boxes, and it became a joyful mess of cardboard and packing paper.
Surreal Moment:
I had no idea how fun and emotional it would be to listen to my audiobook for the first time. Hearing my characters brought to life by a voice actress felt like a dream, especially since it had been awhile since I’d read the whole book. Eva Kaminsky, my narrator, did such a fabulous job that I found myself sucked into the story as if I was a regular reader.
Another surreal moment was hearing fellow Seattle author Asha Youmans talk about my book on New Day Northwest, our local morning TV show. I’ve been overwhelmed by the support of my fellow authors, readers, and friends as I bring this book into the world—thank you, all!
Congrats, Hadley! And welcome to the world All They Ask Is Everything!
